LeaH Saulnier
Because they capture scenes embedded with profound meanings, mirthful meanderings and untold stories of everyday life depicted with a wink, Leah Saulnier has been told that her paintings have the feel of far side meeting Norman Rockwell.
She considers herself a surrealist painter with influences from many other genres. She also sees herself as a writer-by-paint who is occasionally influenced by such widely favored authors as O. Henry, Shirley Jackson, Lewis Carroll, to name but a few. Her art is laced with expressions of humor, hints of the macabre and elements of surprise. Also in her works, look for the significance of seemingly unrelated events, the convergence of the absurd with the rational, the role of machines in the world of people, the curious appearance of animals in unusual surroundings.
Saulnier, born and raised in the west suburbs of Chicago and the daughter of an artist-musician comes from a long line of storytellers. This heritage shows in her art.
Saulnier has been a resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico since 1992 when she followed her parents to the City Different to help run a family business. Currently she paints full time in a relaxed country setting that gives her a direct view of the mountains.
